Matt grew up in suburban Philadelphia and has served in ministry here as well as in South Carolina, Florida and, most recently, Bellevue, Washington. He came to know Christ at a young age but wandered from the faith for many of his adolescent years before succumbing to God's grace during his junior year of high school. He grew immensely as a student at COS—his home church from the age of 10—as well as at Delaware County Christian School, from which he graduated in 1995. After high school, Matt served as a summer intern in the Children's Ministry, which began a long line of roles at COS, including his becoming one of the inaugural Student Ministry Associates before accepting a call to serve as a youth pastor in South Carolina in 2003.

Matt's passion is for the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, as well as for the discipleship of His people. Matt loves people and developing relationships with those of all ages and backgrounds. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Youth Ministry from Columbia International University, a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, and is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).

Matt met his wife, Karyn, in 2003 while she was playing professional soccer in the Philadelphia area and they were married 11 months later. They have two sons, Stephen and Luther, and newborn daughter, Genevieve. Matt enjoys spending time with his family, entertaining people at home, listening to sermons (Tim Keller's and Sinclair Ferguson's, especially), drinking espresso beverages (without cream!) and all things related to all Philadelphia sports.
