Care Ministry Value #3

A caring Christian recognizes that God uses times of suffering to grow us in our relation to Him and to others within the body of Christ. As such, this Christian helps those in need understand God’s presence in the midst of their situation. He stimulates a deeper dependence on God, by encouraging them to honestly bring their situation before Him. He teaches them to apply the grace they have experienced in their own pain to the pain of others, thereby helping them to recognize the redemptive good that can come from their suffering.

This is based on the truths in the following verses:

  • God is present in their suffering. Psalms 23, 61:3, 46:1-3
  • Dependence on God is demonstrated in bringing their situation before Him. Psalm 73:25, Jeremiah 17:5-8, Matthew 11:28
  • There is a redemptive good that comes from suffering. Psalm 119:71-72
  • They can apply the grace they experienced in their own pain to the pain of others. 2 Corinthians 8:1-5
