Right Start

The Right Start Premarital Program is designed to help couples who want to confirm their commitment to each other and prepare couples for Christian marriage. If you are planning to be married by a Church of the Saviour pastor, or at the church, you must successfully complete the Right Start program.

Questions About Right Start?

Just click on any of the following questions to expand answers...

  • Who Can Take Right Start?
    • Couples who are dating and want to confirm their commitment to each other. Much of what is covered encourages a committed relationship.
    • Engaged Couples

In both cases there must be a committment to Christ, and a demonstration of obedience to this committment.

  • What material is covered in the Right Start classes?
    • Biblical Foundations
    • Communication
    • Financial Stewardship
    • Worship and Family
    • Sexuality and Decision Making
  • What if I'm away at school or in the service?

If you attended regularly while in the area you are also eligible for the Right Start Program.

If you can't attend because of distance you may take the program independently by using the Right Start Student Workbook with mentoring in your local church. Successful completion of the Right Start Program will be confirmed by the Certification of Completion, which is given to the pastor performing the wedding ceremony.

  • What Preparation is Needed?

Prior to the beginning of classes couples must:

    • Supply background information.
    • Listen to the Hybels CDs/tapes.
    • Begin reading Fit To Be Tied by Bill and Lynn Hybels.

A notebook for homework, information and notes will be given to each couple. Right Start requires a substantial amount of outside preparation.

  • What will we be doing as part of the course?

Prior to the classes couples should complete the four assignments listed above and then:

    • Attend Sunday classes.
    • Complete classwork.
    • Meet with your assigned mentors. Each couple is matched with the best suitable mentors. The two couples will mutually agree on the meeting times which typically take place off of the Church of the Saviour campus.
    • If you are being married at Church of the Saviour or by one of our pastors we ask that you schedule to meet with a Church of the Saviour pastor, which should take place prior to, or shortly after, beginning Right Start classes.

A notebook for homework, information and notes will be given to each couple. Right Start includes a substantial amount of outside preparation.

  • When should we begin?

If you have been dating and have decided that you want to confirm your commitment to each other it is suggested that you consider taking the classes. If you are engaged we suggest that you finish the program at least six months before the wedding.

  • Is there a registration fee?

A $20 deposit is required to receive a registration packet which will cover the initial registration costs. The registration fee, to cover the cost of materials for the class, is $120 per couple, payable to Church of the Saviour. A $40 discount is available for those who turn in all the registration materials, and fee, six weeks before the classes begin as it will help the Right Start Team prepare for the classes. The deposit fee will be put towards the final cost.
